Can an nft be copied ?

Someone could republish the exact copy on a new server with an NFT which points to it (could be taken down for copyright, but that’s another story).

It’s basically the same thing as the original, but it’s not the same. It’s a brand new token. It doesn’t have the same value as a fake painting. It is originality that gives it its value.

The concert ticket example in the other blog post shows that 10k NFTs are issued by a venue to enable people to enter the concert. These tickets also include a photograph. Each ticket has a unique value on the blockchain so you can track which one is original.

It doesn’t matter if someone else has released NFTs that are identical to the one you have, but they weren’t published by the venue or part of the set. It will instantly be rejected as a valid ticket if you attempt to enter. This is a clear example of where an original can have a greater value than a copy.

It is subjective, however, when it comes to the “art” aspect. What makes a Da Vinci worth millions, but a exact (to the eye) copy worthless? What is the difference between a Superman #1 comic that is worth millions and a 50C/ reprint? What makes a monkey NFT published in XYZ worth $500k, and a monkey NFT printed by ABC worthless

It is possible to identify money laundering as well as people looking for a greater fool to pay more. Some of the problems is simply people who have too much money and want to brag. Others are just dedicated fans who enjoy it very much.
